Greek’s conquering our lives with their ways

The Greeks to us have always been an empire who had weaved tales of amazing stories, made great food , were probably the most progressive at their time and maybe even now. This empire has always interested me and I wanted to take a step closer in how they’ve influenced our lives and what they changed in it.

A few topics I wanted to show were their Literature, Inventions and Cuisine.

Since they have some really helped us in the other hand some of them don’t

So I will be introducing some aspects of the Glorious Greek Empire.

 SO READ ON

Literature

In our literature we have numerous books on or influenced by mythology, namely Greek mythology.

The old Greek books otherwise known or ruled by two great names: Odyssey, Iliad have influenced many books on them and connected to them.

Greek culture has been used to write so many great books in our world many books. Some on fiction, some to express opinion and some to promote an idea.

In fiction one prominent series is Percy Jackson, which is about how demigods fight evil Greek forces in the first series and Greek and Roman evil forces in the second. The term Demigod is the child of a mortal and a god. In mythology these are people that are said to exist and thus the concept.

We see many comics, books and other forms on Greek culture.

Going back to Odyssey and Iliad and other books. The stories in those inspire books to take on the theme of the hero to go on a mission or travel.

As we have seen many Greek heroes, people try to replicate their lives by writing biographies and Auto-biographies. This has been a quick earner as many people would have liked to know how their lives were.

Now enough reading about reading lets read about their Inventions.

Inventions

The Greeks have left us many projects that have been either finished or yet to be. I am going to be talking (or should I say writing) about some of these known and unknown.

The first one up is a Water Clock.

The Water Clock or Clepsydra was used as a timer in court meetings. A person who’s life was on the line got a filled to the top, but for a minor case it was just half filled. The common Clepsydra was an earthen vessel that had a hole in its side near the base.in the 4th B.C this was used as a stopwatch on customers as a time limit at some shops. Herophilos (a doctor) used a portable one for checking his patients pulse beats.

Thank the Greeks for the annoying ringing next to your bed, next stop Alarm Clock.

The Greek inventor Ctesibius invented a pebble system that dropped on to a gong creating sound. Apparently   Plato had one of these attached to a water clock so that he could wake up his students

The All Fun OLYMPICS

The Olympics are one of the most loved contributions that the Greeks have given us. We have taken the games, modified them, added new ones and kept some of the old ones.

The games were dedicated to Zeus (king of the gods) and were played every 4 years in a valley near a city called Ellis.

Now I’m feeling hungry lets go over the Greek cooking

Cuisine

The  Greeks always liked to cook in the courtyard and I guess we like our Sunday BBQ, I can see where it comes from …………….

Their main diet consisted of bread, grain, vegetables, fruits, seafood. The mainly used ingredients were honey (instead of sugar), olives, fig, wheat, barley, veggies , milk, cheese, fish, scallops, prawns, lobster, grapes to name a few.

They did not eat meat except for sea produce. They felt that killing animals (land) was wrong although they sacrificed meat to the gods and occasionally ate a little bit themselves.

They also made wine from the grapes they grew story is that, Dionysus son of Zeus and Semele (mortal), he was to be born but his mom died because she asked Zeus to appear in his godly form which is energy itself. So Zeus opened u is thigh and put the unborn baby inside. When he was ready to be born he was given to an aunt and uncle but Hera found them and made them go mad so he was then given to some mountain nymphs on Mt.Nysa and on one particular day with a friend satyr he saw a vine that caught his eye and tried to climb the tree that held it but could not reach his friend on the other hand said he could climb and did so but, unfortunately his friend slipped and cracked his head on a rock that was below, this caused the young Dionysus anger and grief so in that moment he said with anger ‘ Bear Fruit’ to the vine that caused it to grow and have fruit , he crushed the grapes and made wine.

They used to pickle the summer produce for winter as they could not grow the produce as well.

Some top chefs are George Calombaris, Tess Mallos etc.

I really think they have a healthy lifestyle in terms of food.

Now do you see?

Now after I have shown you my thoughts on how they have changed our life, what do you think?

There is still sooo much more I could have written about but, I had to limit myself it is not an easy task they have done so much in the fields of knowledge: astronomy, math, science, etc.

Now do you see the reason behind my title?

I was amazing to show you how wondrous and amazing the Glorious Greek Empire.

There are still thing we have not discovered but, lest enjoy the ones we have.

There are still mysteries to uncover, there are still reasons to find and that is the point,my Friend.
